WASHINGTON, June 13 (Xinhua) -- The "One Country, Two Systems" policy in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) has been a success and continues to benefit Hong Kong people, U.S. Consul General to Hong Kong and Macau Kurt Tong said on Tuesday.

"The unique form of governance that is exercised in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has been largely successful," said Tong here at an event hosted by Center for Strategic & International Studies.

"China, the United States and other nations, but most importantly the people of Hong Kong themselves, continue to benefit from the unique 'One country, Two systems' framework that allows Hong Kong to be special and different while still being part of China," said Tong, adding that the people of Hong Kong are "prosperous and safe."

The upcoming July 1 marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR. Enacted in accordance with China's Constitution, the Basic Law of the HKSAR specifies the guidelines of "one country, two systems" and "Hong Kong people administering Hong Kong" with a high degree of autonomy.
