At least three people died and two were injured when an electronics store in Xingtai, north China's Hebei Province collapsed at 1:10 p.m. on Monday.
In rainy conditions, rescuers struggled to locate five people trapped under the rubble.
By 9:30 p.m. on Monday, all five had been pulled out and sent to hospital. Three have been confirmed dead and two are now in a stable condition.
The cause of the collapse is still unclear, but local residents told Xinhua that most of the buildings in the neighborhood have been in a state of disrepair for years.
