BEIJING, May 9 (Xinhua) -- A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) had urged the country's publishers to digitalize high quality books and distribute them through the Internet.

Liu Qibao, head of the Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, made the remarks Tuesday at the Commercial Press, which is celebrating its 120th anniversary this year.

Traditional publishers should integrate their advantages in content with Internet technology, said Liu.

Liu also called on the country's publishers to introduce more books on China's development, social system and contemporary values to overseas readers.

Founded in 1897, the state-owned Commercial Press is known for publishing dictionaries and academic works.
