BEIJING, Nov. 2 -- Chinese legislators have called for implementation of laws on protecting the environment and transforming scientific achievements into real benefits.
Legislators on Wednesday reviewed two inspection reports on the enforcement of the Environmental Protection Law and the law on promoting the transformation of scientific achievements at a meeting during the ongoing bimonthly session of National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee.
Zhang Dejiang, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, attended the meeting.
Senior legislators led work teams to inspect implementation across the country earlier this year.
The implementation of the law on scientific achievements turned out to be effective, but certain stipulations in the law have not been well practised in some institutions, said Wang Chen, vice chair and secretary general of the NPC Standing Committee.
Wang said financial investment in transformation is inadequate and the staff training needs to be improved.
Inspectors found problems in implementation of the Environmental Protection Law, such as slack supervision and low awareness of environment protection, said Shen Yueyue, vice chair of the NPC Standing Committee, in her report.
Shen urged authorities to take responsibility for law enforcement to resolve environment issues which widely concern the people.
Legislators also heard reports on NPC special committees' examination of bills put forward by NPC deputies during the Fourth Session of the 12th NPC. Enditem
