A selection of works by Hu Jintao, former Chinese president and general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, has been published by the People's Publishing House.
The selection, which consists of three volumes and collects 242 selected works by Hu dating from June 1988 to November 2012, will be made available nationwide Tuesday, according to an official statement.
The selection, compiled by the Party Literature Editing Committee of the CPC Central Committee, covers economic, political, cultural, social, environmental, military, diplomatic and Party construction issues, it says.
The 242 works include Hu's reports, speeches, conversations, articles, letters and instructions during that time, and a large part of them are made public for the first time, according to the statement, adding that it is a "vivid textbook" for studying and implementing the theories of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
The CPC Central Committee decided to compile and publish Hu's selection in July 2013, saying it is of great significance in the political life of the Party and state, it says.
The works summarize the valuable experience of the Party and the people in promoting reform and opening up as well as the country's socialist modernization drive, it says, adding that the works also reflect the results of Marxism's localization in China.
The first volume, with 74 items, starts with remarks made by Hu on June 8, 1988 in Bijie in southwest China's Guizhou Province, where he delivered a speech on poverty alleviation and ecological protection. It ends with his remarks at an autumn semester opening ceremony of the Party School of the CPC Central Committee on Sept. 2, 2002.
The second volume begins with Hu's remarks during his inspection to Xibaipo in north China's Hebei Province on Dec. 6, 2002 and ends with a report he made at the 17th CPC National Congress on Oct. 15, 2007, collecting 82 of his works.
The third volume, including 86 works, starts with Hu's remarks at a symposium held for new members and alternate members of the CPC Central Committee on Dec. 17, 2007, and ends with a report he made at the 18th CPC National Congress on Nov. 8, 2012.
The selection includes important articles such as Hu's reports delivered at the 17th and 18th CPC national congresses, and his speech at a meeting marking the 90th anniversary of the founding of the CPC.
Some articles focus on deepening reform and opening up, transforming the pattern of economic development, and building a new socialist countryside.
Some articles expound the system of multi-party cooperation and political consultation system under the CPC leadership, development of a strong socialist culture, environmental protection, military building and national defense, the "one country, two systems" principle, and a win-win situation for world peaceful development.
The selection reflects Hu as a leader of forethought and vision, and his contributions to the cause of the Party and the people, the statement says.
