Century-old jujubee tree harvest in Xinjiang

Women and children pick jujubee fruit from a 300-year-old tree in Hami, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. The tree has a perimeter of 2 meters and is one of 15 jujubee trees belonging to a 60-year-old man named Yusuf Tohti.

Tohti's family maintains the tradition of jujubee planting. Jujubee trees and their fruits were supposedly used as tributes to the emperors of the Qing Dynasty. Tohti's jujubee trees are part of a larger collection of century-old trees in Hami. There are currently 12,088 trees aged between 50 and 100 years; 1,795 trees aged between 100 and 150 years; and 42 jujubee trees in the region older than 200. (Photo/People's Daily Online)
