On July 31, nearly 60 mothers simultaneously breastfed their babies on a subway carriage in Nanning, capital city of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, to promote the upcoming World Breastfeeding Week. The mothers called for increased public support for breastfeeding.

At around 10 a.m., the mothers entered a carriage of the newly constructed Nanning subway and began breastfeeding their babies. The other passengers in the carriage all offered their seats to the mothers. A man surnamed Lu, also the father of a 2-year-old, said he supports breastfeeding and does not view it with any prejudice. The mothers all vocally encouraged breastfeeding, saying that it increase babies' immunity and also keep women in good shape.

In response to skepticism about the propriety of public breastfeeding, one mother said that women nowadays don't have to expose their breasts when feeding babies because there are various products available on the market that help to provide modesty.
"Breastfeeding is also a tool to enhance the mother-baby bond," said a father who had accompanied his wife and baby to the subway event.
