HANGZHOU, June 15 -- An inspection and quarantine emergency drill was held Wednesday in the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou, host of the upcoming G20 Summit.
A mock delegate to the summit suspected of carrying Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) was found upon arrival at the airport.
Quarantine officers at the scene initiated an emergency response, including medical screening and rapid laboratory testing.
Invasive spiders were detected in the luggage of another incoming passenger. The quarantine officers called sniffer dogs and carried out fumigation of the affected luggage.
"The organizing committee of the G20 Summit has required us to strengthen safety controls while speeding up customs clearance, so we have to perform our duties more efficiently," said Sun Dawei, deputy chief of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.
