A 7-floor government office building in east China's city of Nanjing, which occupies around 10,000 square meters, has been found abandoned and planted with vegetables and overgrown with weeds in its yard.
A number of newly-built government buildings were abandoned in China, as the country issued a regulation banning the construction of new government buildings since 2013.
Some buildings have been turned into public facilities, such as high-tech research and development parks or care centers for the elderly.
However, some are still left unused.
Chen Hongguang, a law school professor with Anhui University, says the government building is a public resource which should be used for public services, or should be rented or sold.
Chen also says abandoning the government building is an improper management of public resources, which is a malpractice of officials.
