In February, Alaska chiropractor Jennifer Lovdahl, 33, posted photos on Facebook of a chicken nugget Happy Meal that she bought in 2010. After six years, the nuggets and fries still seemed to be in the same condition that they were in when she bought them.
'This whole time and has not rotted, molded, or decomposed at all!' she wrote of the meal, which had been sitting in her office. 'It smells only of cardboard. We did this experiment to show our patients how unhealthy this "food" is. Especially for our growing children! There are so many chemicals in this food!
Before her, an Icelandic man named Hjortur Smarason kept a McDonald's burger and fries for six years, finding the same results.
For its part, McDonald's has addressed the fact that its food doesn't seem to rot on its website, explaining: 'Food needs moisture in the air for mold to form. Without it, food will simply dry out — sort of like bread left out on a counter overnight to make croutons for stuffing.
'You might have seen experiments which seem to show no decomposition in our food. Most likely, this is because the food has dehydrated before any visible deterioration could occur.'
