On the morning of Jan. 6, 2016, the temperature dipped to minus 20 degrees Celsius in Harbin city, capital of northeast China's Heilongjiang province. It was the third day of the Eighth International Collegiate Competition of Snow Sculpture. Braving the severely cold, competitors gathered at the Harbin Engineering University, waving the snow shovel and creating the sculpture works.

Since 2009, snow sculpture enthusiasts from around the world have gathered at the Harbin Engineering University and felt the 'freezing' art from Jan. 4 to 7 every year. 64 teams from 11 countries and regions including the U.S. and Russia participated in the competition this year. Almost 2,000 cubic meters of snow used created a world record.

As early as 2002, a team was established to create snow sculptures in Harbin Engineering University. Students majoring in industrial design built a snow sculpture studio and made it famous.

Today, the International Collegiate Competition of Snow Sculpture held annually by Harbin Engineering University has become one of the main activities of Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival. College students could feel this charming art and enhance the cultural exchanges, and tens of thousands of citizens could enjoy themselves in the activity for free.
