SYDNEY, Jan. 1 (People's Daily Online) – At midnight of January 1, 2016, splendid fireworks illuminated the night sky in Sydney Harbour, which is the most exciting display in Sydney New Year’s Eve celebrations.

Sydney Harbour Bridge was the star of the Sydney New Year's Eve celebrations with new lighting, fireworks and technology placing it at the heart of the fireworks spectacular. 11,000 shells fireworks and 25,000 shooting comets fireworks created 100,000 individual pyrotechnic effects in the display.

Meanwhile, the sails of the Sydney Opera House blazed with new pyrotechnic effects, turning the whole harbour into a kaleidoscope of colour.

"Sydney is a 'City of Colour' and this Sydney New Year’s Eve is a celebration of what makes us such a vibrant, diverse and beautiful city," Sydney Mayor Clover Moore said.

Sydney New Year’s Eve is one of the biggest annual celebrations in the world, attracting more than one million spectators along the Sydney Harbour foreshore and a global audience of more than one billion. It's Australia's largest public event and features one of the largest, most technologically advanced fireworks displays in the world.
