BEIJING, Sept. 12 -- China applauded Mozambican government and the opposition Renamo for signing a ceasefire agreement, a Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said Friday.
"China is glad and extends its congratulations," spokeswoman Hua Chunying told a daily press briefing, adding that China praises the efforts made by both sides to achieve stability and reconciliation.
"As a sincere friend of Mozambique, China hopes the involved parties will view the ceasefire as an opportunity to contribute to peace, stability and prosperity," Hua said.
The two sides on Aug. 25 signed a ceasefire agreement which declares total and definitive cessation of military hostilities with immediate effect.
