China Lodges Solemn Representations with US on Chen Shui-bian's Stopover
Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Zhou Wenzhong Wednesday lodged solemn representation with the US government for its permission of Chen Shui-bian's stopover to the United States.
Zhou called in Michael W. Marine, charge d'affaires ad interim of the U.S. embassy in China for making the representation.
He said that the wrongdoing of the U.S. government seriously dishonored the three Sino-U.S. joint communiques and the commitments made by the U.S. side, stirred the arrogance of the splittist force who sought Taiwan's "independence", and grossly interfered in China's internal affairs.
"The Chinese side expresses its strong indignation at and firm opposition" to such a move, he said.
