Macao, Portugal to Strengthen Cooperation

China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) will strengthen cooperation with Portugal in the fields of economy, culture, public security and administration of justice.

This is in accordance with an official agreement signed Wednesday by visiting Portuguese Foreign Minister Jaime Gama and Edmund Ho Hau Wah, chief executive of the Macao SAR.

In line with it, government officials and members of other organs of the two places will have regular meetings to enhance contacts.

Gama noted in a meeting with the press that Macao has been developing in a sound momentum since it returned to the motherland on December 20, 1999.

Macao and Portugal enjoy good relationship and stable business cooperation now, he said, adding that the Portuguese investments in Macao keep increasing.

Gama arrived here Wednesday morning as the highest-level Portuguese official who has visited Macao since the end of 1999. He will leave for Hong Kong Wednesday night.
