50th Anniversary of Pak-China Diplomatic Relations Marked

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan held a banquet Monday evening in Islamabad to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China.

In their speeches, both Pakistani Foreign Minister Abdul Sattar and Chinese Ambassador Lu Shulin extolled and expressed the resolve to further enhance the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Abdul Sattar said that over the last 50 years Pakistan and China have maintained close cooperation to the benefit of both nations, upheld and practiced the principles of peaceful coexistence, upheld the banner of sovereign equality and opposed policies of hegemomism and domination, supported each other's legitimate positions on issues of concern involving respect for independence and territorial integrity and called for peaceful settlement of differences and disputes in conformity with the principles of justice and international law.

Ambassador Lu Shulin, on his part, said that the Sino-Pakistan relations have enjoyed an all-round growth and an always up-beat development. He was of the view that no matter how the internal situation of the two countries and the international situations have changed, the Sino-Pakistan friendly relations have remained unchanged and developed continuously. The relations between the two countries have become a model for countries with different social systems to develop their friendly relations on the basis of the five principles of peaceful coexistence, Lu said.
