Reception Marks 50th Anniversary of Sino-Pakistani TiesPakistani ambassador to China Riaz Hussain Khokhar gave a dinner reception Monday evening in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China.Chinese Vice Premier Qian Qichen attended the reception. Addressing the reception, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Yang Wenchang reviewed the development of diplomatic ties between the two countries, saying that the people of the two countries have been linked tightly by the Silk Road since over 2000 years ago. The establishment of diplomatic ties 50 years ago marks the inception of a new era of friendly cooperation between the two countries, he said. Yang added that the efforts of the two peoples over the past five decades have led to the new development of their traditional friendship and set an example of peaceful co-existence between countries of different social systems. Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji just concluded a successful visit to Pakistan, which has injected vigor and vitality into the all-round development of good-neighborliness and mutually beneficial co-operation between the two countries, added the vice foreign minister. Ambassador Riaz Khokhar also highly evaluated the development of Pakistan-China Relations in the past five decades, saying the record of 50 years testifies that Pakistan and China have supported each other through thick and thin. "We rejoiced with the people of China over the return of Hongkong and Macao and we fully support China's policy of 'one country two systems'," he said, adding the Pakistani people hope and pray that Taiwan will reunify with the mainland of the motherland before long. The ambassador said that Pakistan and China have conducted multidimensional cooperation covering agriculture, industry, infrastructure, science and technology, communications, and information technology in the past 50 years and symbols of mutually beneficial co-operation dot the entire landscape of Pakistan and are too numerous to be counted. The frequent exchanges of visits by the leaders of the two nations have also greatly propelled the development of friendly relationships, he added.
