A festival featuring kite art opened Tuesday in Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang Province.
With a history of 2,300 years, Chinese kite art has been developed into a large-sized event in terms of kite's shape, color and flying functions.
The 45-day festival is jointly sponsored by two cities of Hangzhou and Weifang which is a major city famous for north-China-style kites in Shandong Province.
More than 40,000 spectators from home and abroad attended the opening ceremony held Monday evening.
During the festival there will be a kite-flying competition, kite-flying performances and a kite art exhibition.
