Xu Jialu: 3 Misunderstandings Existed in Western Development Should be Prevented
Xu Jialu, Vice Chairman of Standing Committee of National People's Congress said on the 16th session of Southwest Economic Coordination Meeting opened on September 6 that three misunderstandings in the western development should be corrected. It's of great importance to the development.
First some people would relate the western development to that of Shenzhen Special Economic Zone in Guangdong and Pudong in Shanghai. Actually they are quite different on time and space. The methods applied on Shenzhen and Shanghai could not be copied. On the contrary, western people should proceed the development basing on the local conditions.
Second large projects would be the main content of the development. According to Xu, central government only provided the basic facilities. While mobilizing the local aggressiveness should be the key of the development. Western development is a long-term task, one or two projects just could not help.
Third one western area developed, gap between east and west would be shrunk. Xu said frankly that economic development followed its rule of successive increase. So the gab would expand instead of shrink. The consensus guidance should be prepared in advance. (Panorama)
