Chinese Firms Urged to Expand Economic Ties with Central Asian Nations

Chinese enterprises, especially those in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, should try to expand their economic and trade relations with Central Asian nations, advised Chinese commercial counselors to the region.

Yang Xiumin, a Chinese diplomat to Kazakhstan, said that Xinjiang region, which boarders several Central Asian nations, enjoys a special advantage in developing economic ties with Central Asian nations, not just because of its geographic proximity.

The economies in the two regions complement each other, he added.

Statistics show that the trade volume from January to August between China and Kazakhstan stands at over 800 million U.S. dollars. China has made a total investment of some 400 million yuan, the fifth biggest foreign investment source in Kazakhstan.

Yang said that he believes that the two sides still have untapped potential.

Two other Chinese commercial counselors, one stationed in Tajikistan and the other in Kyrgyzstan, hold shared Yang's view. They also urged Chinese enterprises to do more business in Central Asia.
