Guangdong Customs Seize Nearly 12 Million Pirated CDs
Guangdong customs have cracked more than 200,000 cases involving the smuggling of pirated CDs and seized nearly 12 million copies of pirated CDs between January and August of this year.
In July and August alone, Guangdong customs have uncovered nearly 3.5 million copies of pirated VCDs and DVDs as well as destroyed bootleg DVD inspection and storage facility.
On August 1, the Zhongshan customs anti-smuggling team and Zhongshan investigators followed a lead from locals and investigated an underground bootleg DVD inspection and storage facility. It seized 79,000 copies of DVDs that were in the process of being inspected and packaged and arrested ten suspects.
On August 10, an anti-smuggling ship stopped a fishing boat and upon inspection, found 1030 cases of CDs without any legal documentation hidden in the cabin, holding a total of 1.03 million copies of pirated CDs.
