Xiamen Customs Cracks Down on Pirated VCD Center
The customs in Xiamen, a port city in east China's Fujian Province, has closed down an underground center for pirating VCDs, confiscating four imported VCD production lines and raw materials, a local customs official said Wednesday.
It is the largest case involving VCD pirating in recent years, the official said.
The VCD pirating center was located in the Jinnan Industrial Development Park in Jinjiang City, and the illegal work was carried on under the guise of the production of polyester fiber.
The four VCD production lines were imported in 1999, and the daily output was 80,000 VCDs. The head of the VCD pirating center has been detained, and the case is now being prosecuted, the official said.
