North China City to Invest 8.5 Billion Yuan in Port Construction

Tianjin, north China's largest port city is to allocate 8.5 billion yuan (about 102 million US dollars) in port construction in the next 10 years.

According to officials with the port's administration, its annual handling capacity is expected to exceed 100 million tons by then.

To play an active role in west China's development and economic globalization, the local government will improve the port's facilities in the coming years.

The port has planned to build a 100,000-ton berth for general goods, a 100,000-ton one for crude oil and several for containers. It will have six 100,000-ton deep-water berths next year.

The port built a 35,000-ton berth for non-metal ores last year and a 50,000-ton one for coke transport this year.
