Emotional Pressure and Bad Habits Make Men Turn to Viagra

After Viagra was allowed to be sold on the Chinese market, more and more men are requesting the prescription drug produced by Pfizer for curing erectile deficiency (ED).

On July 3 when Viagra entered the Chinese market, five men asked doctors at the No. 1 Hospital Attached to the Beijing Medical Sciences University to prescribe the blue pills for them, "Beijing Morning Post" reported.

A 25-mg tablet costs 71 yuan (8.5 U.S. dollars) and a 50-mg tablet 99 Yuan. The average monthly income of an urban employee in 1998 was 450 yuan.

Professor Wang Qi at Chaoyang Hospital in Beijing said that 33 percent of Viagra buyers are between 20 and 35, 40 percent between 36 and 45, and 26 percent over 60.

Statistics collected by Wang in six nationwide hospitals showed that among 824 ED sufferers, 65 percent suffered from emotional pressure and had unhealthy habits such as excessive drinking and smoking.
