2.39 Million Poor Handicapped People Receive Adequate Food and Clothing

Last year, China had 1.7 million disabled people who recovered various degrees, 2.39 million poor handicapped people solved the problem of having enough food and clothing, according to the 17th council meeting of China Handicap Welfare Funds.

This includes 410,000 people with cataracts who recovered their eyesight, 20,000 cases of reconstructive operations for those with body defects and 1.03 million people cured from psychological illnesses.

The statistics, including the aforementioned ones, Deng Pufang revealed indicates that last year's mission for China's disabled was completed. The compulsory education enrollment rate for disabled children has exceeded 70%, 58,000 disabled people received professional training, 260,000 more disabled people found jobs and 1.6 million handicapped people got various forms of social security.

Deng noted that this year China Handicap Welfare Funds would continue to coordinate with local places to hold large charity fundraising activities and promote the reform of the fund.

Last year, this fund collected 14.47 million yuan worth of donations, disbursed 9.70 million yuan to help handicapped people get well as well as other projects for the disabled like education, poverty elimination, cultural and physical activities.
