Beijing Spreads Population Education in Colleges

Nearly 10,000 college students in Beijing recently signed their names to a proposal calling on youngsters to learn more about population growth and its impact on the environment.

This is part of the effort this year to educate the city's college students about population control.

"We are responsible for our future generations, we are responsible for our tomorrow," the written proposal said. "We should take a scientific attitude towards marriage and procreation. "

As the capital of the world's most populated country, Beijing now has a yearly birth rate of 0.65 percent and a population growth rate of 0.09 percent.

Beijing plans to control its population to 11.1 million this year.
