Sino-EU Agreement A "Win-Win" Deal

President Jiang Zemin on May 19 hailed the Sino-European Union (EU) agreement on China's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) as a "win-win" deal.

The Chinese and EU delegations have had several rounds of consultation this year, and finally reached a win-win agreement on May 19 based on the spirit of mutual concession and consultation on an equal footing, Jiang said in a meeting in Beijing on May 19 evening with European Commission Trade Commissioner Pascal Lamy and his party.

Jiang extended his congratulations to both sides on reaching the bilateral agreement, and expressed his thanks to representatives from both sides for their hard work.

Jiang said when he talked with leaders of some European countries during his visit to Europe several months ago, "All of us cherish a common wish that China and EU should reach an agreement on China's WTO entry as soon as possible."
