Beijing To Host Seminar On IPR Protection

A seminar on the protection of intellectual property rights (IPR) and an open trial of an IPR violation case will be held during the up-coming Beijing Third International High-Tech Week next month, an official source said.

According to Yao Wang, deputy secretary-general of High-Tech Week, the IPR seminar will be held on May 9 at the 21st Century Hotel, focusing on legal problems which occur in the process of high-tech development.

Also during High-Tech Week, May 8 to 12, the People's Court of the Haidian District of Beijing, where most of the city's IPR owners are located, will have an open trial of a case involving IPR violations, Yao said.

"A number of individuals and journalists from both home and abroad will be invited to attend the trial," he said.

Official figures show that IPR violations have been increasing since the middle 1980s, and during the past 14 years, courts in Beijing heard a total of 2,959 IPR lawsuits.
