China Exercises Close Watch on Chen Shui-bian's "Inauguration" Speech
Chen Yunlin, director of Taiwan Affairs Office of the CPC Central Committee and Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, reiterated March 28 that close attention will be given to Chen shui-bian's "inauguration" speech on May 20.
China wants to know whether Chen Shui-bian, the leader of Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party, states clearly the "One China Principle" in his speech, Chen Yunlin said. The mainland will not accept any sayings like "One China Principle as a topic of talks" with Taiwan and has made it clear that China will not have any contact with any person around Chen Shui-bian until he clears his attitude on the " One China Principle".
Chen Yunlin also pointed out that the mainland hopes the leader of Democratic Progressive Party should stop dishing out such theories as "two Chinas" or "one China and one Taiwan", otherwise, Chen Shui-bian puts his stakes on the welfare of 23 million Taiwan people and terrible aftermath can occur.
Chen stressed that the mainland will consider Chen Shui-bian's "inauguration " speech as one critical to cross-Straits relations and the future of Taiwan will hinge on an intuitive idea of his when his "inauguration" speech is to be delivered on May 20.
