US Urged to Follow Commitments on Taiwan

China on March 20 urged the United States to strictly follow the commitments it has made on the Taiwan issue.

China demands that the U.S. would cautiously handle the Taiwan issue and take practical measures to follow its "One China" stance, the principles set forth in the three joint communiqu¨¦s, and the three "nos" commitment it has already made, according to foreign ministry spokesman Sun Yuxi at today's press conference.

The U.S. has committed itself to three "nos", namely not to support the independence of Taiwan, not to support "two Chinas" or "one China, one Taiwan", and not to support Taiwan's membership in any organization for which statehood is a requirement, Sun further explained.

China has also demanded that the U.S. keeps relations with Taiwan only on the non-official level, and stop its arms sales to Taiwan, he noted.
