BEIJING, May 9 (Xinhua) -- China welcomes the appointment of Brazilian diplomat Roberto Azevedo as head of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said at a Thursday press briefing.
Hua said China will continue to support the work of the director general of the WTO and play a constructive role in multilateral trade affairs.
Azevedo is expected to replace Pascal Lamy as the head of the global trade regulating body on Sept. 1.
Azevedo has been the Brazilian ambassador to the WTO since 2008.
