Japanese quakes not expected to affect China

BEIJING, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- The earthquakes that occurred off Japan on Friday is likely to trigger a tsunami in the epicenter region, but it will not bring disastrous effects on Chinese coastal regions, according to China's National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center.

The center said it will closely monitor the follow-up to the quakes and release timely information.

Two earthquakes, with magnitudes of 7.4 and 6.2 respectively, jolted the east coast of Honshu, Japan, in succession on Friday, the China Earthquake Networks Center reported.
