Japanese House of Representatives dissolved for general election

TOKYO, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Japanese House of Representatives was officially dissolved at the plenary session Friday afternoon for a general election schedule for Dec. 16.

Speaker of lower house Takahiro Yokomichi read out to the Imperial decree singed by Japanese Emperor Akihito to the parliament, proclaiming the dissolution.

Noda will hold a press conference Friday evening at his official residence to explain the dissolution to Japanese people, "I will resolutely face the public," said Noda earlier Friday.

Noda's Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) is facing the challenges from the main opposition Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and other parties.

Shinzo Abe, president of LDP, on Friday vowed to win the upcoming general election ahead the Diet dissolution
