10 trapped underground in NW China mine fire

XI'AN, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Ten miners are trapped underground following a fire that broke out on Tuesday in a sulfur mine in northwest China's Shaanxi Province, local authorities said.

The mine, located in Chengcheng County, caught fire around 2 p.m. while 28 miners were working underground, a statement from the county's publicity department said.

Eighteen of the miners have been rescued and are being treated at a local hospital.

Efforts to rescue the trapped miners are under way.
