Epidemic prevention experts sent to NW China quake zone

BEIJING, July 23 (Xinhua) -- The National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC) said Tuesday that it has dispatched 34 medical and epidemic prevention experts to the quake-hit area in northwest China.

A total of 999 people injured in the earthquake had received medical treatment as of noon on Tuesday, and 1,574 medical staff members are now working in the quake-hit zone.

The 6.6-magnitude quake jolted the border of Minxian and Zhangxian counties in the city of Dingxi at 7:45 a.m. Monday morning, killing 94 people and injuring 1,001 as of Tuesday afternoon. One person remains missing.

The NHFPC urged local authorities to evacuate injured people out of the quake zone and fully carry out epidemic prevention and health education work.

In the meantime, the Ministry of Public Security said Tuesday that the security situation in quake-hit zone is "orderly and stable." Local police are strengthening patrols and helping quake victims.
