BEIJING, July 18 (Xinhua) -- A blue wave warning for Typhoon Cimaron was raised to yellow on Thursday morning, according to the National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center.

Cimaron, the eighth tropical storm to hit China this year, is forecast to make landfall in east China's Guangdong Province and the southern parts of neighboring Fujian Province from Thursday afternoon to the night.

From midday on Thursday to Friday morning, Cimaron is expected to whip up sea waves as high as five meters in the northeastern part of the South China Sea, Taiwan Strait and Bashi Channel. It is also expected to create waves ranging in height from 2.5 to 3.5 meters near Guangdong and Fujian provinces.

The center also forecast up to 80 cm of precipitation from Thursday to Friday morning in coastal areas in Guangdong and Fujian.

China uses a four-tier color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe weather, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
