Beijing, May 31 (People’s Daily Online) The "Second China-Europe-South America Dialogue Meeting was held during May 28-30 2013 in Beijing. More than 20 distinguished CSO (civil society organizations) delegates attended the meeting and discussed issues of common concern relating to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and sustainable development post-2015. The meeting was held with the purpose of exchanging ideas about better operations for CSOs by the China Association for NGO Cooperation (CANGO) and co-organized by the China-Europa Forum (CEF).
As the extension to Rio+20 Conference in Brazil in 2012, the workshop has a special focus on the role of civil society in the challenge of building sustainable societies. Delegates from different regions shared cases with concrete and successful initiatives or projects, and lessons from national and international poverty eradication and sustainability campaigns and policies.
Moreover, the delegates issued a joint statement and recommendations for the MGD evaluation and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) framework which will replace the MDG framework in 2015. The joint statement includes the lessons learned from the MDG process, a description of remaining regional priorities for sustainable development in China, Europe and South America, a summary of main points to be integrated into the future SDG framework, recommendations for enhanced cooperation for sustainable development between the three regions and a shared vision for the transition to a new development paradigm.
A future tripartite meeting of the CSOs is planned for 2014.
