BEIJING, April 25 (Xinhua) -- Enthusiasm for stamps in China is growing, with the number of registered collectors reaching 2.43 million, the All-China Philatelic Federation (ACPF) said on Thursday.

The total number of local philatelic societies and stamp-collecting groups under enterprises, schools and local communities rose from 42,000 in 2006 to more than 54,000 at the end of 2012, said Tan Xiaowei, executive vice-president of the ACPF.

The number of registered collectors reached 2.43 million in 2012, up from 1.22 million in 2007, according to the federation.

The nationwide annual stamp contest, which dates back to 1980, attracted 1.67 million applications in 2012, the ACPF said.

Meanwhile, China sent a total of 475 stamp exhibits to various global stamp shows and won 17 large gold awards, 30 gold awards and 104 large vermeil awards, data from the ACPF showed.
