2 armed police rescuers injured

LUSHAN, Sichuan, April 22 (Xinhua) -- Two armed police rescuers were injured, including one who sustained severe injuries, while protecting local residents from an aftershock-triggered landslide.

Song Yongke, an armed police engineer, suffered head injuries and bone fractures in his leg on Sunday. After five hours in surgery, Song's vital signs have stabilized, armed police sources said Monday.

Corporal Yan Kaikai is being treated for less severe injuries in the hospital.

A 7.0-magnitude earthquake hit Lushan county, Ya'an City of southwest China's Sichuan Province, at 8:02 a.m. Saturday Beijing Time, leaving at least 186 people dead and 11,393 injured, according to the latest statistics from the provincial emergency response command center.
