A man who beat his 3-year-old daughter inside a taxi and threw her out of the car window was killed minutes later by a truck near Zhangzhou City, Fujian Province, local media reported today.

The 29-year-old man surnamed Gan took the taxi on Tuesday night with his daughter to go from Longhai City to Zhangzhou. They were quiet for much of the journey, but the man suddenly started beating the girl, smashed the car window, and threw her out, the Strait Herald reported.

The taxi driver surnamed Chen said he pulled the car to the roadside and the man got off, went to the girl and continued beating.

Chen said he called the police immediately. Noticing this, the man abandoned the girl and ran toward the opposite side of the road when an oncoming truck knocked him down and rolled over him, the paper said.

The girl was sent to the hospital for treatment of skull fractures and bruises, while her father's body was sent to a local morgue.

The man's relatives said Gan was divorced from his wife months after the girl was born, and he was asked to take the girl to see her mother on that day.

Police are still investigating the case.
