BEIJING, March 7 (Xinhua) -- Judicial authorities on Thursday formally approved the arrests of suspects involved in a gang rape, including the son of a famous Chinese singer surnamed Li, local authorities said.
The Beijing Municipal People's Procuratorate did not release detailed information on the suspects, nor Li's full name, as he is a minor.
Li and four others were apprehended on Feb. 20, after a woman accused them of raping her, according to media reports.
Police insiders who requested anonymity said Li is the son of Li Shuangjiang, dean of the music department of the People's Liberation Army Academy of Arts.
They added that the suspects were detained after the woman told police she was taken to a hotel and gang raped after drinking with the men in a bar on Feb. 17.
This is not the junior Li's first run-in with police.
The 17-year-old and another teenager attacked a couple who allegedly blocked their driveway near the entrance of a residential community in Beijing two years ago. He was later sent to a government correctional facility for one year.
