A manager of a restaurant was detained for being suspected of swapping customers' genuine alcohol bottles with fake liquor, the Beijing Evening News reported Monday.
On November 11, police in Haidian district received a complaint from a customer at a restaurant that a bottle of genuine Maotai (Chinese liquor) he brought to a restaurant had been swapped.
Witnesses alleged the restaurant manager, surnamed Pi, was the culprit.
Police found 14 bottles of Maotai in Pi's office and home, 13 of which were fake bottles.
A restaurant employee said this was the third time customers had complained that the high-priced liquor they brought to the restaurant was swapped out.
