A taskforce of the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) completed underway comprehensive supply training in a sea area of the West Pacific Ocean on December 6, 2012.
The "Poyang Lake" comprehensive supply ship and the "Zhoushan" guided missile frigate met at 14:30 and sailed at the same speed in the same direction. The reporters saw on the "Zhoushan" guided missile frigate that the "Poyang Lake" ship projected a running line to the "Zhoushan" frigate, and afterwards, a high line was slowly unfolded between the two ships and hoses for supplying POL (petroleum, oil and lubricant) and water began to connect with each other. Then the "Ma'anshan" guided missile frigate reached the supply position on the other side of the "Poyang Lake" ship to receive supplies simultaneously. The simultaneous supply to the two frigates was completed in stormy waves.
Previously, the "Poyang Lake" comprehensive supply ship had accomplished the training of providing supplies to the "Hangzhou" guided missile destroyer and the "Ningbo" guided missile frigate successively.
The maritime comprehensive supply training of the taskforce aims to test the organization and command processes as well as plans of maritime supply, and improve comprehensive supply ship's capability for carrying out missions and tasks under complex conditions. It has great significance for the taskforce's high-sea operation and viability, according to Senior Captain Wang Jianxun, chief of staff of the taskforce and commander of a destroyer flotilla under the East China Sea Fleet of the PLA Navy.
The taskforce has completed the training of such subjects as round-the-clock navigation and defense, high-sea operation and supply, and ship-aircraft coordinated joint search and rescue as planned since it arrived in the West Pacific Ocean in late November.
