A deputy to the local people's congress in Shanxi province, who was exposed online as having "four wives and ten children", has had his deputy qualification suspended.

Li Junwen, 43, was removed from his post as deputy to the Xiaodian district people's congress in Taiyuan, capital of Shanxi province, the district government's publicity department said on Thursday morning.

The district government also confirmed that Li is being investigated by police for suspected intentional injury.

It is alleged Li hired people to carry out attacks on his behalf on five separate occasions from June 2010 to April this year.
