Most of the seniors who were allegedly deceived by a company which invited them to the Great Hall of the People for a chorus competition Saturday had received a refund Monday, a Ministry of Culture official told the Global Times.
Amid chaotic scenes, over 6,000 seniors refused to leave the Great Hall for 14 hours, claiming that Shengshi Huange, organizer of the Second Session of the Chinese Middle- and Old-Aged Art Performance, had cheated them of a 2,000-yuan ($341) fee.
A media officer surnamed Zhou from the Ministry of Culture said that the leaders of the ministry rushed to the Great Hall Saturday night when the situation spiraled out of control.
"A small number of people are still waiting to get back their money because it takes time for the organizer to raise money for them," said Zhou.
Zhou noted the contest was not hosted by the Ministry of Culture, but confirmed the Arts Service Center, which is under the ministry, was one of the hosts.
