A 38-year-old divorced woman remained in intensive care Sunday after her boyfriend slit her throat when she broke up with him Saturday evening in Baoshan district.

The victim, Bao Wenli, was with her boyfriend in a parked car on Baolin Road when she suggested they end their relationship, according to a news report on Shanghai Television Station. The boyfriend, surnamed Zhu, got angry and slashed her trachea and two veins in her neck. He then cut his own throat before stepping out of the vehicle.

An employee who worked at a nearby kindergarten told the Global Times that she saw Zhu exit the vehicle and get hit by a passing car around 5:30 pm. Police arrived a few minutes later and blocked the street.

Zeng Ni, a press officer with the Baoshan police, confirmed that people were injured by knives that day, but the case was still under investigation.

Bao, who has a 9-year-old son and a 16-year-old daughter, got a divorce in July after her husband discovered she was having an affair with Zhu, according to the TV news report. Zhu is 10 years younger than her.
