Fang Fenghui holds talks with commander-in-chief of Myanmar Armed Forces

BEIJING, October 15 (ChinaMil) -- Fang Fenghui, member of the Central Military Commission (CMC) of the People's Republic of China (PRC) and chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), held talks with Min Aung Hlaing, the visiting commander-in-chief of the Myanmar Armed Forces, on the afternoon of October 14, 2013 in Beijing.

Fang Fenghui said that the relations between the Chinese and Myanmar militaries have been long maintaining a momentum of healthy and stable development, as evidenced by fruitful cooperation in such fields as high-level reciprocal visits, equipment cooperation, personnel training, frontier defense exchanges and so on, adding new connotations to the development of the relations between the two countries.

Under the new situation, the two militaries are supposed to adapt to new requirements of the development of the China-Myanmar comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, continue to maintain frequent high-level reciprocal visits, intensify the efforts to cooperate in training, strengthen exchanges among young and middle-aged officers, actively carry out joint exercises and joint trainings, improve the mechanism for frontier defense cooperation, facilitate multilateral coordination, so as to push forward in-depth and sustainable development of the relations between the two militaries.

The Chinese side respects Myanmar's sovereignty and territorial integrity, commits itself to maintaining peace and stability in China-Myanmar border areas, firmly supports Myanmar's national reconciliation process, and is willing to play a constructive role in promoting the Myanmar-Kachin peace talk process.

Min Aung Hlaing said that the relations between the two countries and the two militaries have been developed steadily in recent years. The Myanmar side is committed to constantly promote the development of the bilateral relations of special significance. The Myanmar military is willing to make joint efforts with the Chinese military to make positive contributions to the development of the relations between the two countries.

The two sides also had an extensive and in-depth exchange of views on the security situation in Southeast Asia and issues of common concern.
