HERAT, Afghanistan, June 20 (Xinhua) -- Several hundreds of newly graduated soldiers on Thursday joined Afghan army in the province of Herat, 640 km west of national capital Kabul.
"Up to 600 fresh soldiers after completion of four-month training period come into commission in Afghan National Army (ANA) corps 207 Zafar in Herat," the commander of the corps, General Taj Mohammad Jahid, told Xinhua.
The newly graduated soldiers will be deployed to the western part of the country to provide security for their people, he added.
The Afghan government and NATO Training Mission in Afghanistan (NTM-A) have stepped up efforts to train and equip Afghan police and army.
The Afghan force took over full lead of security operations across the country from the Nato-led coalition troops on Tuesday.
