BISHKEK, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- Kyrgyzstan and Russia signed a protocol on military-technical cooperation here Thursday.

The document was signed by Kyrgyz Minister of Energy and Industry Avtandil Kalmambetov and Russia's Deputy Director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation Konstantin Biryulin, according to the press service of the Kyrgyz Ministry Energy and Industry.

The Protocol was the result of the eighth meeting of the joint commission on military-technical cooperation between the two countries, which was held on Jan. 29-31.

The main objective of the Protocol, said Kalmambetov, is the interaction of the Russian defense industry and military enterprises in Kyrgyzstan. Cooperation in this area will be carried out on a reciprocal basis.

Highlighting the potential of Kyrgyzstan's defense industry, Biryulin said: "Our presidents last year gave impetus to further deepening and developing relations between the countries. We must not miss this opportunity."
