Meng Jianzhu is elected as member of the Political Bureau of the 18th Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee on Nov. 15, 2012. (Xinhua)

BEIJING, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- The following is the biographical sketch of Meng Jianzhu:

Meng Jianzhu, born in July 1947, is a male ethnic Han from Wuxian County, Jiangsu Province. He entered the workforce in August 1968 and joined the CPC in June 1971. He graduated from the Shanghai Institute of Machinery with a major in systems engineering, received a postgraduate education while in service and was awarded the degree of Master of Engineering. He is a senior economist.

He is currently a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, a state councilor, and a member of the State Council Leading Party Members' Group. He is deputy secretary of the Committee of Political and Legal Affairs under the CPC Central Committee, minister of the Ministry of Public Security and secretary of its Party Committee, and the commissioner general of police.
